By co-operation research, visiting and sponsoring or attending academic conference, more than 50 such events every year, the State Key Laboratory of Heavy Oil Processing has had a wide international contracting and co-operating with other related research institution in the world. This promotes the academic level of the Lab and extends the influence of the Lab in the world. Based on the mechanism of "open, unite, float and competition", the Lab accepts visiting scholars and provides them with good working conditions. Academic researchers and scholars are welcomed to do research work in the Lab.

Opening Fund of the State Key Laboratory of Heavy Oil Processing During the last 4 years, according to the principle of limited goals and highlighted keystones, SKLHOP has put its emphases on supporting studies of basic theories and techniques of Heavy Oil Chemistry, and has approved and implemented 40 opening fund projects. As to the evaluation of application for the fund projects, except for some general affairs such as guidebooks issuance, accepting application periodically, performing formal authentication by domain experts and soon on, SKLHOP pays special attentions to some other things:
